We already know that over a third of all marketing emails are viewed on a mobile device — and over 85% of those are viewed on an Apple device. When it comes to mobile commerce, Apple’s platform is just as dominant… That’s according to a new infographic released by UK firm Affiliate Window.

According to research in the UK, the iPad alone is responsible for 55% of all mobile commerce. Add to that the iPhone’s 29% share, and you’ve got an 84% iOS smackdown… no, a bloodbath.

Google and Amazon are working fast to close the gap (I’ve heard great things about the Nexus 7), Apple will continue to dominate well into the foreseeable future.

Globally, iOS is raking in 72% of mobile apps market, despite the fact that more people own Android devices. That’s just a small glimpse into how much more iOS users are spending on apps…

And while it’s true that Amazon stands to benefit from the growth of the mobile web, it’s clear that the Android platform (which the Kindle’s built on), isn’t quite the shopping vehicle that iOS is.

What all of this data means is that you need to do everything in your power to appeal to not just mobile users, but to iOS users.

The easiest ways to do this are to take advantage of the massive iTunes marketplace. Podcasts, videos, iBooks, and especially apps are the lowest hanging fruit when it comes to partnering with Apple.

Creating simple but effective iTunes apps — like the ones Ryan will discuss in this afternoon’s training “Appify Your Blog: How to Create an iTunes-Ready App in 5 Minutes.” In a way, you’re teaching your users to access your brand through their iPad/iPhone — which plays into both a near-term and long-term mobile strategy.
